to you hang on. i have jonathan here with me from our nbc affiliate in new york. you have new information as well. >> there have been reports that an arrest has been made. several law enforcement sources tell us that has not happened. there will abnormal statement coming from the justice department and fbi shortly to refute those reports. what we do know there is this video as michael and pete williams have been explaining of a man putting a bag down near the scene and they have a tentative id on who that person may be and they want to question and speak to that man. i do not know yet if they found that man. they may have. they may be speaking to him. as of now there is no arrest in this case and the investigation as michael and pete were just explaining, is moving forward but there is no break in the case in the sense that an arrest has been made. >> jonathan, regarding the update from law enforcement personnel, we were expecting an update at 5:00 p.m. eastern time. originally that was around 1:00 p.m. eastern time. when are we getting this update. >> that is going to be an e-mail statem
online to the bostonmarathontips, all one word, fbi.gov. let's get to the manhunt itself. jonathan dietz is in new york. we're trying to figure out -- you know why i'm asking this, it's a speculation, right now at the command center, operating center, what is happening in terms of the filtering, archiving and catalog of calls coming in. we're told by pete williams that the fbi is receiving calls of suspected matchups with the faces here. >> they are getting some names and now what they are trying to do is run those names through data is bas and s databases and there is no name to match the suspects. but they are operating those lines. they have task force teams obviously ready to run out and follow any leads as they come in. some names are being offered from the calls and e-mails that are coming in but as of now there is no certain match and they are, again, using all their computers and technology to try to, as the names come in, to try to find them and find out which tips are more credible than the others. >> i'm wondering, jonathan, if you were in that crowd and survived and you're wa
and jonathan capehart, political writer for "washington post" and msnbc contributor. luke, are they going to have the votes in the end or not? >> most likely not. 60 is a very steep hill for this. the reason why, a lot of those republican senators who voted for this to move forward on cloture have now backtracked. what's interesting, though, i think that's really happened here is two things. everyone's attention shifted to boston, to the pr push that the gun control lobby that they would have is not the same. the newtown families aren't registers as much today as they would have had that tragedy in boston not occurred. number two, boehner in the house put out a pretty declarative statement last week. we're going to water down whatever comes out of the senate. if you're a republican senator, if you're a red state democrat, why go out on a limb for this when the house is probably going to sit on it? >> harry reid, i mean, he knows when he's got the votes and when he doesn't. why would he proceed with this? i mean, i wonder, is that part of the pr strategy? put it on the floor, let it fail a
reporter jonathan dienst. thank you, jonathan. what do we got new? you've listened to the first part of this show. we're talking about what the suspect has had to say, the surviving suspect about being out there all alone. two brothers operating alone, technically, and also apparently ideologically. they were picking up their radicalization over the internet. not through any coaching or role of anybody as a sort of a recruiter. >> well, that is the claim that investigators say is being made by the wounded younger brother who continues to recover in the hospital. investigators are now running around, as you heard, they're trying to verify that. they are checking with all of the relatives. you've got the wife, you've got two sisters in new jersey. you've got the parents overseas. you've got russian intelligence. you've got -- they're tracking their cell phones. as of now, nothing to indicate, but, again, it is still very early on for them to have done a deep dive to find out exactly if there are any connections to any others, whether there's a bomb maker or a trainer or some sort of ji
now wnbc's jonathan dienst is with us from new york. i understand you have a lot to brief us on in terms of the travel, in terms of the weaponry found at the site the other night. whatever you've got, we need it. >> we're told there are seven improvised explosive devices that have been recovered from the vehicle where they were allegedly throwing out the bombs at the police officers, to some of the devices that were found including one of those pressure cooker bombs that the older brother heaved toward the police officers and was opening fire during that wild and insane shootout that was taking place overnight. and the search continues for this suspect. they're doing it literally in a grid house-by-house, location-by-location in and around the area where he was last seen. have the whole area cordoned off. why is it taking so much time? because it is a significant area they're recovering. they remain hopeful that they will track him down, but we've got no indication that they have a sight on him at this hour. >> tell me about the older brother's travel to russia. >> yeah, it w
